Carbon footprint of RV vacation, 50% that of airline/car/hotel vacation

A recent study released by PKF Consulting shows that the carbon footprint from an RV vacation is roughly 50% of the footprint from an air/car/hotel vacation.  Not only is RVing fun but now you know it is better for our environment.  So be kind to the planet and take an RV vacation.  The study is summarized below.  The full study may be viewed here.

ESTIMATED CARBON FOOTPRINT OF
RECREATION VEHICLE VACATIONS COMPARED TO
FLY / DRIVE / HOTEL VACATIONS

OBJECTIVE AND METHODOLOGY
Recreation Vehicle Industry Association requested that PKF conduct an environmental analysis for summer 2008 comparing the estimated carbon footprint (CO2 emissions in tons) of RV vacations against airline/rental car/motels or hotels vacations.

 CONCLUSION
As the data from the previous tables indicate, across the board, RV vacations have a lower CO2 emissions level than the airline/rental car/motels or hotels vacations. Essentially, RV vacations have a less adverse environmental impact than the typical airline/rental car/motels or hotels vacation.

I think you are on the right track. When ever I want to go camping somewhere I am unfamiliar, I always try and research on the web. My biggest complaint is that there are not any pictures or that the picture does not match the site I actually get.
