In this section we will do an in depth feature of a campground and give you a more detailed look at our featured campground. We will strive to show you, not only the campground, but the surrounding area and the activities that will be available to you.

Highest RV campground in North America at 10,127

We recently had the opportunity to visit SugarLoafin RV Campground in Leadville Colorado and found that the altitude was not the only thing that could take your breath away. The 360 degree views will stop you in your tracks. SugarLoafin is one of the most scenic campgrounds we have ever visited and the enclosed video only begins to show the scenery.

SugarLoafin has been in existence for 46 years and has a very loyal following. It is not unusual that guests at SugarLoafin first visited when their parents or grandparents took them camping here. SugarLoafin is nestled in the pines about 1 mile east of Turquoise Lake and close to a whole host of activities. The visitor will find dedicated camping areas for RVs, Popups, Tents and Cabin rentals. The site density (how close sites are to each other) is generous, allowing for a more remote camping feeling. The RV spots have level cement pads poured (see video) which makes a level setup a breeze. We were impressed with the tenting pads and they are large enough to accommodate the largest of multi-room tents. The cabin rentals come completely furnished including all cooking utensils, a full bath and bed linens of 400 thread count sheets.

Many RV campgrounds use work campers, which are RVers that work for the season in exchange for their site and a small paycheck. SugarLoafin uses the best and brightest from the local area high school and college, and supports the community with their hiring practices. SugarLoafin is one of those places that must be experienced, as it is difficult to describe adequately with words. If you seek a great place to get away and yet don’t want to drive for hours on end from Denver, head UP to Leadville Colorado and visit SugarLoafin. Don Seppi will be happy to arrange activities for your visit and as a native he knows just about all there is to know when it comes to fun things to do. Reservations are suggested and may be made online at their website or by calling 719-486-1031.

I think you are on the right track. When ever I want to go camping somewhere I am unfamiliar, I always try and research on the web. My biggest complaint is that there are not any pictures or that the picture does not match the site I actually get.
